PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an abnormal discharge to be generated at the edge part of the upper side and the edge part of the lower side of an effective display area in a plasma display panel. SOLUTION: In the driving method and device of a plasma display panel, when a cell to be displayed is selected by applying voltages whose polarities are opposite to each other to two electrodes opposed across a discharge space in the effective display area, a fixed voltage is supplied to dummy electrodes arranged at the outside of the effective display area during an address period selecting the cell.
