The appts includes a container, filled with water, and an ultrasound source with pairs of piezoelectric transducers placed on either side of the bone. The transducers are focused with one pair operating in the high frequency range while the second pair operates at low frequency. The ultrasound beam is swept over the bone by two motors which displace the transducers along two orthogonal directions (x,y). A data acquisition module collects transmitted or reflected signals which are stored in a memory module. Various parameters are then estimated by a processing module.
