PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer for an optical cable which can fully decrease the residual strain in fibers in bending the cable, even when tape-type optical fibers are housed. SOLUTION: The spacer 1 for an optical cable has a plurality of slots 3 for housing optical fibers on the outer peripheral face and is housed in a cable. The slots 3 are SZ grooves and are formed, in such a manner that the transiting part C between the inversion part of the SZ pattern and the inversion part of the ZS pattern produces a trace periodically changing on the surface of the spacer 1.
