PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to detect the milling degree of rice grains with good accuracy with a circulation type rice polishing machine. SOLUTION: A discharge port 9 of a rice polishing hopper 8 is communicated with a rice polishing chamber 4 and a circulation passage passing through a return passage 15 from the outlet of the rice polishing chamber 4 and returning to the rice polishing hopper 8 is constituted. The discharge port 9 in mid-way of the circulation passage is provided with an optical sensor 22 in the case rice polishing is performed while the rice grains fed into the rice polishing hopper 8 are circulated in the circulation passage, by which the rice milling degree of the rice grains is directly detected.
