PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxyalkylene group-containing polyvinyl alcohol resin having an excellent characteristic feature that when used as a dispersion auxiliary for the suspension polymerization of vinyl chloride, foaming in the system is reduced both in the reaction in the initial period of polymerization and in the recovery of unreacted vinyl chloride monomer after completion of polymerization and, in addition, polyvinyl chloride having a high bulk density, good plasticizer absorption, and reduced amounts of the remaining monomer and generated fish eyes can be produced. SOLUTION: The oxyalkylene group-containing polyvinyl alcohol resin is produced by dropping an oxyalkylene group-containing monomer and a vinyl ester monomer into the reaction system to effect the copolymerization of the both, and saponifying the obtained oxyalkylene group-containing vinyl ester copolymer.
