Memory area addressing in an MPEG decoder

The method involves addressing a memory zone (S'1, S'2) which is allocated to bidirectional images produced by a decoder operating according to an MPEG standard. The images are organised in rows of macro-blocks constituted by blocks (Y1-Y4,U,V) containing data relating to a group of image pixels. Each data block is divided into a first half-block based on odd lines (11,13,15,17), and a second half block based on even lines (12,14,16,18). All half-blocks of the same type (t,b) are arranged sequentially in the same range of macro-blocks. The size of the memory zone being used is less than the size of the image memory.
