PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve security in a system and a method for recognizing fingerprint with which identity is confirmed by collating a registered fingerprint and a pressed fingerprint. SOLUTION: This system is provided with a register means such as memory for storing a decision level when the fingerprint is registered by a fingerprint device 1 for registration and registered fingerprint information corresponding to an identification number, a collation processing means such as image processing part for performing collation processing of the pressed fingerprint and the registered fingerprint with the decision level as a collation level when collating fingerprints for the first time during a prescribed period such as one day or one week by the fingerprint device for collation, and a means such as memory for holding a collation level corresponding to the identification number as a temporary collation level when the next fingerprint is collated within the prescribed period on the basis of a collation enable level exceeding the collation level when the first fingerprint is collated by this collation processing means.
