The invention relates to a fire protection device for domestic appliances. At the outset of a malfunction which could potentially result in the domestic appliance catching fire, said device carries out measures which can protect the domestic appliance from further damage and which can prevent the danger of fire. According to the invention, the fire protection device for domestic appliances comprises at least one fault current circuit breaker (1) and at least one gas sensor (5) with a gas sensor circuit. The fault current circuit breaker (1) is embodied in such a way and arranged in the domestic appliance (2) in such a way that a fault current in one of the electric conductors of the domestic appliance (2) results in disconnection of the electricity supply of the domestic appliance (2) and the at least one gas sensor (5) produces a signal after a specific amount of control gas is present inside the domestic appliance, said signal resulting in disconnection of the electricity supply of the domestic appliance (2).
