The invention relates to a magnetic resonance system as well as to a method for operating the same. The magnetic resonance system comprises a plurality of antennae (1) disposed in an array around the examination room (27), every antenna (1) having its own send channel (2) and its own receiving channel (3). The control device (26) of the magnetic resonance system is adapted to determine for every antenna (1) the amplitude and the phase of a magnetic resonance signal received by the antenna (1). It is further adapted to control the antennae (1) independently to emit HF radiation having a predetermined phase and amplitude in order to generate, for the purpose of hyperthermal treatment, an HF field that is focused in the examination room (27). The inventive magnetic resonance system can be used to carry out a hyperthermal treatment without additional water cushions and allows for an almost simultaneous exact temperature measurement in the tissue area that is subjected to the treatment.
