PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device equipped with a developer carrier where a coating layer is not cracked or broken in press-contact development. SOLUTION: This developing device is equipped with the developer carrier 9 holding and feeding developer 8 to an opposed position to the developer carrier 1 while press-contacting with a latent image carrier 1. For the developer carrier 9, the coating layer 12 preventing the oozing of plasticizer is formed on the outer periphery of an elastic layer 11 to which the plasticizer is added. The coefficient of fluctuation of film thickness of the joint part, at least, of the coating layer 12 is set to be smaller than 35%. Thus, even if press-contact development where stress acts on the coating film repeatedly is used, the concentration of the stress is not caused at a part of the coating film, so that the coating layer 12 is not cracked or broken even in the case of long-term use, and an excellent image is continuously formed. |
