PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of covering an optical fiber bundle with an elastic tube which is low in the damage on the optical fiber bundle and can diminish the external diameter over the entire part of the optical fiber bundle unit when the bundle is covered with the elastic tube. SOLUTION: The elastic tube 4 is pulled in the axial direction of the tube and the elastic tube 4 in the pulled state is expanded in a diametral direction over approximately the entire length and thereafter the optical fiber bundle 6 is inserted into the elastic tube 4 and while the state of pulling the elastic tube 4 is maintained after the insertion, the expansion of the elastic tube 4 is released and the outer periphery of the optical fiber bundle 6 is covered with the elastic tube 4.
