The pedal axle (2) is mounted between two pedal bars (4) which on exceeding a force in the event of an accident release the pedal axle which is then moved upwards by a stay (18) which extends between an end wall (21) and the component part above the axle and which is deflected upwards in a crash situation. The stay is angled substantially obtuse in longitudinal section with the obtuse angle above the pedal axle and the stay extending roof-shaped over same.
