The method involves applying two measurement markers to the specimen (5) at a distance apart, sighting one marker with the image field of a first objective (1.1) and the other with the image field of a second objective (1.2) of the same microscope, determining and recording the positions of the measurement markers within the image fields of the objectives, subjecting the specimens to thermal treatment, re-measuring and recording the positions of the measurement markers in both image fields and determining the length deviations of the position measurements.. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for highly accurate measurement of length changes of glass and glass ceramic specimens.
