In a process to cut a paper web feed into shorter lengths, the moving paper is traversed by a cutter drum moving at the same speed as the web. The cutter blade forms part of a dust suction box (15) with a number of inlet passages (21). The parallel suction passages extend the entire width of the suction box but operate independently. Each passage has an inlet slit (25) with a closure (26).
