A solid polymer type fuel cell and a solid polymer type fuel cell system, which are made simple, compact and light weight. These fuel cell and system comprise: a plurality of reactive gas supply separators (8) arranged on at least one of the mutually opposing face of each unit cell (4) and the non−opposing face of the unit cell(4) and including a fuel gas supply passage such as a groove (22) and an oxidizer gas supply passage such as a groove (49) disposed on the opposing faces; a conductive, porous and water−repellent layer (51) interposed between at least a catalyzer layer (42) and the groove (22); water supply means or the groove (22) for supplying liquid water to an introduction portion (23) of a fuel gas; and means (31) for controlling the flow of the water to be supplied to the fuel gas introduction portion (23).
