PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein a lost motion spring becomes easy to fall off when oscillating a sub-rocker arm and a cost is increased when enforcing the measure. SOLUTION: This valve system is provided with cams 23 and 24 for low speed and high speed provided on a camshaft 22, a main rocker arm 26 which is oscillated by the cam 23 for low speed and makes intake valves 21 and 21 perform opening/closing operations, the sub-rocker arm 27 oscillated by the cam 24 for high speed, and a linking switching mechanism 28 for linking both of the rocker arms 26 and 27 or releasing the linking according to an engine operating state. The lost motion spring 34 for making idle movement of the sub-rocker arm 27 is formed into a substantially conical shape for expanding the outer diameter from a lower end part 34b in elastic contact with an upper surface 26f of a base end part 26a of the main rocker arm 26 to an upper end part 34a in elastic contact with a lower surface 27d of the sub-rocker arm 27.
