PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel capable of fully exhibiting its display capability by realizing sequential scanning in a high definition panel. SOLUTION: A substrate on which scan electrodes (Y1 , Y2 ,...) and sustaining electrodes (X1 , X2 ,...) are formed alternately and a substrate on which write electrodes are formed so as to intersect the aforementioned electrodes are disposed to face oppositely. A plurality of discharge cells are formed by discharge gaps formed among these scan electrodes and sustaining electrodes and intersection parts with the write electrodes. Odd numbered sustaining electrodes are connected to form a sustaining electrode group XO and even numbered sustaining electrodes are connected to form a sustaining electrode group XE. When discharge cells lining up along the write electrodes are numbered sequentially from 1, picture data are written into the odd numbered discharge cells in the first half of a write period and the picture data are written into the even numbered discharge cells in the latter half of the period. Thereafter, display discharge is performed in entire discharge cells in a sustaining period.
