<p>PURPOSE: To provide a magneto-resistive head having a narrow core width and a large reproducing output. CONSTITUTION: The magneto-resistive head 10 includes a lower magnetic shield 16, an antiferromagnetic layer 22 disposed on the lower magnetic shield 16, a pinned ferromagnetic layer 24 disposed on the antiferromagnetic layer 22, a nonmagnetic intermediate 26 disposed on the pinned ferromagnetic layer 24, and a free ferromagnetic layer 28 disposed on the nonmagnetic intermediate layer 26. The magneto-resistive head 10 additionally includes a pair of hard magnetic film bias layers 32 disposed in both sides of the free ferromagnetic layer 28, a pair of terminal layers 34 disposed on the hard magnetic film bias layers 32, a metal oxide film 36 formed on the free ferromagnetic layer 28 between the pair of terminal layers 34, and an upper magnetic shield 40 disposed above the pair of terminal layers 34 and the metal oxide film 36.</p> |
