PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for covering a biomedical material or ophthalmic device excellent in adhesiveness and durability. SOLUTION: This method includes (a) the step of coating the surface of a material with at least one different comb polymer which comprises a basic polymer backbone and side chains (of which at least a part is carrying a precursor capable of inducing the formation of a carbene or nitrene) pendently bonded thereto and (b) the step of fixing the comb polymer by heat or radiation, especially a radiation such as UV or visible rays, to the surface of the material.
