PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent blackening brought about on the inner face of the sealing glass at the time of discharge. SOLUTION: The light source device is made by connecting a discharge lamp, which contains mercury of 0.15 mg or more per 1 mm<3> of volume of the discharge space and in which a pair of electrodes are arranged opposed to each other, to a feeding device (Ex) which starts the above discharge lamp and supplies discharge current to the above electrodes. The feeding device (Ex) has a function of identifying the glow discharge state of the above discharge lamp and, during the period in which the identification of the glow discharge state is being made, controls the electric power inputted to the discharge lamp so that it may be two times or less than the rated power of the above discharge lamp. |
