<p>The invention relates to an actuating device for causing an object to move, which is provided with a cylinder connected to a source of gas under pressure, such as a pyrotechnic element, and a piston received therein for movement under the influence of the gas pressure. Using such an actuating device an object can be moved relatively rapidly through a determined distance. The actuating device can be provided with plastically deformable means for damping a return movement thereof. The invention further relates to a seat, in particular a vehicle seat, with a frame mounted in the vehicle, a seat part arranged thereon and a backrest connected thereto, at least a part of which is movable substantially parallel to the seat part, which seat is provided with an actuating device for causing at least the movable part of the backrest, in response to an impact load, to co-displace with the load.</p> |
