PURPOSE: A shock absorber is provided to improve freedom of design of a shock absorber by reducing the base length of a body valve. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorber comprises a cylindrical base shell(30), a cylindrical tube(31) installed inside the base shell, a piston valve(32) and a piston rod(33) doing rectilinear reciprocation inside the cylindrical tube, a body valve(34) fixed to the lower part of the cylindrical body, and a rod guide(35) and an oil seal(36) installed to the upper part of the cylindrical tube so as to support the piston rod. The body valve comprises a body(40), a sealing washer(41), and an intake spring. Oil stored between the tube and base shell flows into the inside of the tube just when the body valve is extended and the body valve is shut tight when the body valve is compressed. Additional compression oil passages are prepared so that oil can pass through the rod guide when the body valve is compressed. The number of parts of the body valve is reduced and the base length is reduced. Therefore, the freedom of design of the shock absorber is improved.
