<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a imager compression system for generating compressed image data with high efficiency, by using compression once. SOLUTION: The image compression system includes an imaging means for converting an optical image to an electric signal and a image compression means for compressing the pick-up image data obtained from the pick-up signal. The space frequency characteristic of the pick-up image is obtained, just in a step for storing the pick-up image in a frame memory. On the basis of the detected spatial frequency characteristic, the optimum quantization table is selected and the compressed image data for storing is generated by using the selected optimum quantization table.</p> |
