PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an acyloxyacetic acid at a low cost by which the acyloxyacetic acid can be produced continuously by making the selective hydrolysis of an ester of the acyloxyacetic acid easy. SOLUTION: A compound represented by general formula (III) is hydrolyzed without taking out the compound from the reaction solution by allowing the reaction solution to include at least one kind of a phase transfer catalyst or at least one kind of a water-soluble solvent in the method for producing the acyloxyacetic acid represented by general formula (IV) by forming the compound represented by general formula (III) out of a compound represented by general formula (I) and a compound represented by general formula (II), and hydrolyzing the compound represented by general formula (III).
