PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element capable of eliminating a polarizing filter and suitable for thinning by endowing a sealing material with function of absorbing light incident from the outside. SOLUTION: The sealing material for the organic EL element has a metal plate or metal foil as a base board, on the surface of which, an organic coating film with visible light reflectance at wavelengths of 400 to 600 nm of 15% or less and with film thickness of 1 to 40 μm is applied. The organic coating film is desired to have a tint with brightness index L* in the L*a*b* color system as defined by CIE 1976 at not more than 30 and chromaticness index a* in the range of -1 to 1, and chromaticness index b* in the range of -1 to 1. |
