PURPOSE: A device and method for a backup of a data file is provided to perform a backup operation with respect to only a data file having different contents and enable a user to designate a backup mode setting, a file comparison condition, and a backup objected file by comparing file managing information with respect to data files as multi-stage in the case that data files recorded and stored in the first computer are backup and stored in a second computer. CONSTITUTION: A data file backup mode is set(S12) on condition that the first computer(external computer) is connected to the second computer(S11). File managing information with respect to data files recorded and stored in the external computer is requested and received(S13). The received file managing information is compared with file managing information stored in a device(S14). If the information is different thereto(S15), the different data file is requested and received from the external computer, and the different data file is stored(S18).
