PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage device which actualizes the reduction of an initial investment cost and short-time timely extension and its charging method. SOLUTION: The storage device 10 has disk capacity more than user's extension intention and cache capacity, and other elements 12 constituting the data storage device, and the user rents the device. The owner of the data storage device 10 charges the user separately for basic provision capacity and extra use capacity. For the purpose, the data storage device is equipped with a means which allows the owner to grasp that the user starts using the device, a means for expanding the use area as the user intends to increase the data storage device, and a means for recognizing the expanded capacity. |
