The method involves determining a mesh (GH) in a network. The mesh is a closed sequence of bi-directional links traversing each node (A-L) part of the mesh exactly once, remaining links in the network, which do not form part of the mesh but being protected by the mesh, intersect the mesh. Transmission capacity is reserved within the mesh for restoration purpose. In the case of a failure of a link in the network, traffic is rerouted from the failed link over the mesh using the reserved capacity.
