A method of making an all-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer comprising at least two optical fibers (210, 202) comprises the steps of bringing the fibers (201, 202) in a reciprocal contact relationship for a contact section thereof; fusing together and tapering the fibers in at least a first portion (291, 292) of said contact section; forming at least two optical couplers (5,6) between the fibers in a second and a third portions of said contact section, located at opposite sides of saides of said first portion. The fusing and tapering at said first portion causes said fibers to be physically joined but does not result in significant optical coupling between the two fibers. |
