PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern projection apparatus that is compact, does not have any working sections, and can change projection pattern inexpensively, and to provide a depth map inputting apparatus using the pattern projection apparatus. SOLUTION: The pattern projection apparatus is provided with a plurality of light sources 1 and 2, and a pattern board 3 where a light transmission section in a specific shape is provided. Then, a phosphor that is selected from the plurality of light sources 1 and 2 is allowed to emit light, and the light is applied to a target object 4 via the pattern board 3, thus projecting a different pattern to the target object 4.
