PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material which improves streak- or spot-like defects caused in processing with a heat developing apparatus used for a long period of time and to provide an image recording method and an image forming method using the heat developable photosensitive material. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material has a backing layer on one side of the base, an image forming layer containing photosensitive silver halide, an organic silver salt, a reducing agent for the organic silver salt and a binder on the other side and at least one surface protecting layer on the image forming layer. When 9.8 mN load is applied to the surface of the heat developable photosensitive material on the image forming layer side while the surface temperature is in the range of 10-60 deg.C, the rate of plastic deformation defined by the equation (rate (%) of plastic deformation)=(amount of plastic deformation)/[(amount of elastic deformation)+(amount of plastic deformation)×100 is <=50%.
