Rotary cutting apparatus, e.g. for sheet material 12 having a low coefficient of friction, comprises a cutting roll 20 having cutting rules 36, and a co-operating back-up roll 24, one or both rolls 20, 24 having undulating locating means 40 arranged to grip the sheet 12 adjacent the rules 36 to resist slipping of the sheet at the roll nip. Apertured carrier strips 26 for containers may be produced from polyethylene sheet 12, inner portions 29 cut out by the rules 36 being ejected by rollers 28, and the locating means may comprise rules integral with or attached to the roll(s) for engaging scrap-forming portions of the sheet.</p> |
