Preventive and/or therapeutic drugs for diseases due to stenotic lesions of blood vessel, which contain as the active ingredient hydroxamic acid derivatives of the general formula (I) exhibiting matrix metalloprotease inhibiting activity or nontoxic salts thereof: wherein R1 is hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, or C1-8 alkyl substituted with OR2, R2 being hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, benzyl, or C1-8 alkyl substituted with C1-8 alkoxy.
