PURPOSE: To provide an ion generator preventing short-circuits while obtaining an electric field sufficient for ion generation between an electrode needle and a counter electrode. CONSTITUTION: The creeping route A (passing through an air jetting port 13a) of a shortest distance and a route B (not passing through the air jetting port 13a) between the electrode needle 3 and a counter electrode plate 4 are formed. The distances of the creeping routes A and B are practically increased by two flange parts 17 formed on a sleeve 906 and the flange part 19 formed on the end part of the outer cylinder part of an electrode unit 8.
