The spectacle frame consists of a straight and flat front bar (1) with a square or round expanded edge to engage with matching slots in the upper edges (6) of the lenses (3), nose bridge (6) and hinge components (4) for the side-pieces (9). The lenses, nose bridge and hinge components are slid into place from the ends of the bar, after which the hinge components are fixed to the bar by grub screws. The bar measures some 3 - 4 mm in depth and is about 1 mm thick in its flat section, allowing a degree of flexibility to accommodate lens curvature.
