PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ink from leaking from a head when carrying an ink jet printer provided with an ink cartridge having an air communicating hole. SOLUTION: The air communicating hole 17c is provided to an external wall of the ink cartridge 17a, 17b and the air is introduced thereinto so that suction and ejection of ink from the head can be smoothly performed. The ink jet printer comprises a sealing valve 81 for closing the air communicating hole 17c, a coil spring 83 that urges the sealing valve 81 in the closing direction, and a solenoid 85 for opening the sealing valve 81 by moving the sealing valve 81 against the urging force of the coil spring 83. The solenoid is driven only when the suction or the ejection of the ink from the head is needed. As a result, the air communicating hole 17c is closed when carrying the ink jet printer so that it is possible to prevent the leakage of the ink. |
