PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil sampler for geological survey, which is small in size, light in weight, low in cost, and ensures soil sampling in a stratum at a predetermined location in a manner eliminating mixture of groundwater, soil, etc., sampled at locations other than the predetermined location, with good sampling efficiency and without generating excavation debris. SOLUTION: The soil sampler has a down-the-hole hammer for driving the stratum using hydraulic pressure, and a core tube which is detachably attached to a front portion of the down-the-hole hammer in an excavating direction, and squeezed into the stratum upon directly receiving a driving force of the down-the-hole hammer, to thereby take a soil sample therein. The core tube is rotatable together with the down-the-hole hammer and axially slidable. When the down-the-hole hammer is squeezed, the core tube slides in a contracting direction, to thereby activate the down-the-hole hammer. On the other hand, when the down-the-hole hammer is pulled out of the stratum, the core tube slides in an extending direction, and therefore activation of the down-the-hole hammer is terminated to assume a blowing state.
