PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a kitchen waste treatment device which is used for subjecting kitchen waste (or garbage) received in a treatment vessel to treatment such as drying to obtain a treated material and in the discharge operation of the treated material, even when a discharge means is locked, capable of automatically releasing the locking and smoothly performing the discharge operation and thereby enables reduction in operational load on an operator. SOLUTION: The kitchen waste treatment process using this device comprises: treating garbage in a treatment vessel 2 for receiving such garbage and subjecting it to drying treatment, to obtain a treated material; and discharging the treated material through a discharging port with agitation blades 3 controlled by a control circuit 21; wherein when locking of the agitation blades 3 is detected in the discharge operation, a locking release procedure that involves reversely rotating an agitation motor 6 for driving the agitation blades 3, to the normal rotational direction for the discharge operation and thereafter, rotating the agitation motor 6 in the normal rotational direction, is performed.
