The device (10) enables a vertical conveyor (3) to be used to transport maintenance staff between two shelf columns. It is used with the warehouse lift's own drive turned off. After making a connection between the control unit and vertical conveyor drive motor the maintenance technician (15) can initiate only slow movements of the vertical conveyor and/or its horizontal conveyor with a hand controller (17) connected to the control unit by a control cable (16).
