PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission controller for a vehicle and a shift operating member capable of improving the visibility of a connecting condition of a transmission even when the connecting condition of the transmission can be automatically controlled. SOLUTION: This shift operating member 11 is provided with a rotatable operating part 21 and a base 22 supporting the operating part 21. A surface 21a of the operating part 21 is provided with plural light-emitting parts 23. The base is provided with plural position display parts 25 displaying each connecting condition of the transmission 18 on parts respectively corresponding to a part of each light-emitting part 23. An SBW-ECU 12 allows the position display part 25 and the light-emitting part 23 corresponding to the present connecting condition of the transmission 18 to emit the light. Thereby the position display part 25a is indicated by the light-emitting part 23.
