PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sweep and remove ballast on a sleeper in any of a normal track section, a both side derailing prevention track section, and a one side derailing prevention section. SOLUTION: This ballast sweeper is provided with a central brush part 4a having a slightly smaller width than an interval between rails A1 and A2, a rotary brush 4 having side brush parts 4b, 4c on both sides of the central brush part 4a and capable of performing rising and lowering operations and forward and backward rotation operation freely, and an auxiliary rotary brush 5 which has a central brush part 5a and both side brush parts 5b, 5c, whose width W1 is slightly smaller than an interval G1 between the rails A1 and A2, in which intervals G5, G6 among the central brush part 5a and the side brush parts 5b, 5c on both sides of it are set to be slightly larger than widths W6, W7 between an outer end of the rail A and an inner end of a derailing prevention rail guard B, and which is constituted so as to perform rising and lowering operations and normal and reverse rotation operation freely and laterally displace freely in the travel direction.
