<p>Ceramic article is made by moulding either by compression or injection a green mix comprising a sillimanite group mineral pref. kyanite and a binder e.g. wax, PVC, nylon silicone resin which can be burnt off in a preliminary heating step, and subjecting the green moulding to controlled time and temperature (1177 - 1371 degrees) firing to produce a controlled expansion, in which some of the sillimanite mineral is converted into mullite and SiO2.</p> |
