<p>The present invention discloses upweller systems and methods for growing shellfish in a body of water. The upweller system (10) includes a pump (20) for pumping water through bins (12) housing shellfish (22). The pump (20) can be powered by solar radiation absorbed by photovoltaic cells (18) included in solar modules (16) or other forms of generated power obtained the harnessing of wind or tidal energy. The shellfish bins (12) are configured in such a manner as to contain the shellfish (22) at early stages of development and to protect them from predation. Further, the bins (12) are designed to allow water to efficiently flow through, thus providing clean water and fresh nutrients for the shellfish (22) contained therein. Finally, the present invention provides for a method of shellfish farming using the device (10) of the present invention described above.</p> |
