PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the input part of a mobile terminal capable of efficiently inputting characters without sacrificing the miniaturization of the mobile terminal. SOLUTION: This portable telephone set 1 is provided with an LCD(liquid crystal display) 2 and an operating part 3, and the operating part 3 is constituted of input keys 4 and the other various operation keys 5. The input keys 4 are constituted as keys for inputting characters, and arranged by 5 lines and 5 columns. The operation keys 5 are constituted of a character key 5a being a selecting means for selecting a character group to be inputted and a shift key 5b. The input keys 4 are regularly assigned by every character with the character group of Japanese syllabary from 'A(cursive form of Japanese syllabary)' to 'N', the character group of the Japanese syllabary from 'HA' to 'N', the character group of English characters, and the character group of digits. At the time of inputting characters from the input keys 4, the character group to be inputted is selected by the character key 5a, and then the input keys 4 assigned with desired characters or symbols are depressed so that the characters can be inputted.
