PURPOSE: A method for displaying the residual of a battery is provided to display the residual of a battery in time by dividing discharging intervals according to the discharging characteristics of a battery, connecting the discharging time of each interval to a voltage level, and detecting the voltage levels of the battery at regular time intervals. CONSTITUTION: A portable terminal measures the voltage levels of the battery at regular time intervals and divides the discharging intervals of the battery according to the discharging widths. The portable phone stores each of the detected voltage levels with each discharging time. The portable phone detects the present voltage level and determines which interval the detected voltage level belongs to. The portable phone sums the discharging time based on the detected voltage level of the determined interval and the discharging time at the other intervals and outputs the sum as the residual time of the battery.
