There has been provided no satisfactory means of distinguishing (involving identifying) the variation of sugar chains. A so-called lectin gene forming a definite lectin is specified and modified to form various lectins, thereby constructing a lectin library containing plural types of lectins. Further, cells having sugar chains are identified by using the lectin library thus constructed.
