PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat treatment apparatus capable of adapting for a large-sized formation of processed items, capable of attaining a high inter-plane temperature distribution accuracy, and having its simple configuration, less- expensive in cost and a less number of design steps. SOLUTION: There is provided a continuous heat treatment apparatus 1 in which either one or more than two heat treatment zones are installed, a pair of heating devices 5, 6 are oppositely arranged within at least one heat treatment zone, and a processed item P is heated between both heating devices 5, 6. One heating device 5 forming a pair of heating devices has a plurality of heating units 7 arranged in a forward or rearward direction. The other heating device 6 has a plurality of heating units 8 arranged in a lateral direction. A temperature control means for controlling a temperature is arranged for each of the heating units 7, 8.
