PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for spinning an optical fiber by which Rayleigh scattering in spinning is suppressed even at a high linear velocity of spinning and loss to light of 1.55μm wavelength band can be reduced. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 3 is precooled in a first cooling region 4 having a low convective heat transfer coefficient so as to lower the temperature of the optical fiber 3 when the fiber enters a second cooling region 5. The optical fiber 3 is then cooled in the second cooling region 5 having a high convective heat transfer coefficient and spun.
