PURPOSE: A color cathode ray tube is provided to improve productivity and apply high tension to a sub-frame. CONSTITUTION: A color cathode ray tube comprises a panel, a shadow mask, a frame including main frames(13) and sub-frames(12a). A phosphor surface is formed on the inner surface of the panel. The shadow mask is arranged on the phosphor surface with an interval. The main frames(13) support the shadow mask. The sub-frames(12a) are fixed to both sides of the main frame to apply elastic force. The sub-frames(12a) are shaped to be recessed toward the center of the main frames(13) before the sub-frames(12a) are compressed. The sub-frames(12a) become parallel to each other after the sub-frames(12a) are compressed so that the intervals between the inner surface of the panel and the sub-frames(12a) are maintained constantly.
