Use is disclosed of non- beta -oxidizable fatty acids analogues of the general formula (I) Alkyl-X-CH2COOR wherein alkyl represents a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group of from 8-26 carbon atoms, X represents a sulphur atom and R is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl, for the manufacture of a medicament to inhibit the oxidative modification of low density lipoprotein (LDL).
